SEBASTIAN BACH's Brother Signs One-Year Deal With the PHOENIX COYOTES

August 19, 2003

Zac Bierk, brother of former SKID ROW frontman Sebastian Bach, has signed a one-year contract with the Phoenix Coyotes professional hockey team (NHL). Goaltender Bierk had filed for salary arbitration but the two parties reached an agreement on a one-year deal in lieu of arbitration. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The 26-year-old native of Peterborough, Ontario was nominated by the Phoenix chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers Association for the Bill Masterton Trophy (symbolic of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey). During the 2002-03 season, Bierk faced 40 or more shots 3 times and allowed only 3 goals combined in those games (.976 SV%). He set a new career high with 9 straight starts from January 14 to February 7, posting a 4-5-0 record with a 1.91 GAA and .936 SV% during that stretch. He also tied his career high win streak with 3 straight wins from January 20-24. Bierk had an incredible stretch from January 18-26 where he allowed only one goal in each of his 5 consecutive starts (3-2-0 record, 1.01 GAA and .967 SV% during that period). He finished as the runner-up for NHL Player of Week for the period ending January 26 (4 GP, 3-1-0, 1.00 GAA, .969 SV%). Bierk missed 16 games from February 15-March 18 with a groin strain (suffered February 14 at Minnesota).

In 5 NHL seasons with Tampa Bay, Minnesota and Phoenix, Bierk has played in 43 career NHL games, posting a record of 9-19-3 with a 3.12 GAA and a .903 save percentage and 1 shutout. Bierk was drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning (9th round, 212th overall) in the 1995 Entry Draft. The Coyotes signed him as a free agent on August 30, 2001.
